Top 5 Baby Products for New Mom Life

Hey, I’m in my cool mom era.

I’m a first-time mom figuring it out one diaper, one coffee, and one Amazon package at a time.

There are so many baby products out there. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re building your registry. It’s so hard to know what you’re going to need or use most before your baby is here, and baby gear is expensive. I know I wanted products that we would love and use long-term.

So here it is — my top five most-used baby items. The real MVPs I’ve loved and used most with my seven month old.

1. Wildbird Aerial Carrier

What it is:

A beautiful fabric baby carrier designed for everyday wear. It supports both front-inward facing carry and can be converted to use as a back carry, offering padded straps and built-in lumbar support for longer wear.

Why I love it:

  • I’ve been using this carrier since my baby was 8lbs. It’s given me freedom to continue living my normal routine while snuggling her hands-free.

  • I wear her while doing chores around the house, shopping at Costco, and even during mother-baby workout classes.

  • It’s comfortable and supportive with padded straps and lumbar support — great for daily use.

  • Grows with baby.

  • Supportive for baby - promotes a healthy hip development “m” shape during wear.

Real talk:

  • While it does say it can be used from birth I preferred to use a wrap when she was a newborn until she had more head control.

Who I think needs this:

Any busy mama who is on-the-go (I think that’s all of us)!

2. Muslin burp cloths

What it is: These are soft, absorbent baby burp cloths made from 100 % cotton muslin and are sold in multi-packs. They’re designed to catch spit-up, drool, and other messes during feeding and everyday baby life. They’re breathable, gentle on sensitive skin, and versatile enough to be used as burp rags, mini blankets, washcloths, and wipes.

Why they’re always in rotation:

  • You literally can not have enough of these. My baby constantly spits up and I have these in every room of the house for a quick cleanup.

Mom life moment it saved:

Blowout on the go? Slap a large cloth down until you can get home to wash the car seat. Spit up everywhere? They’re gentle enough that they can wipe new baby skin without irritation.

3. Woolino sleep sack

Why it’s elite-tier in my house:

  • The merino wool keeps baby at the perfect temperature all night no matter the season.

  • Super easy to clean.

  • Safe for when babies begin to roll over.

  • Can be used for a long time, 2 months - 2 years.

Pro tip:

We loved the Love to Dream sleek sack when baby was first born and still had the startle reflex. She loved sleeping with her arms above her head and was so cozy in this. As soon as she was old enough for the Woolino (two months) we switched her and never looked back.

4. Silver nursing cups

The reason it made the top five:

These SAVED ME in the first few weeks of breastfeeding. They are magical and I highly recommend them to anyone attempting breastfeeding.

What I didn’t expect:

I didn’t think this was something I needed lined up before baby came but when I knew I needed them it was already way too late. They were super hard to find in person and I could have saved myself a lot of pain if I had ordered these before the birth.

New mom rating: 10/10

5. Jool Baby Waterproof Baby Changing Pad

I don’t know why they even still sell fabric changing pads. I can’t begin to count the number of messes we’ve easily wiped up and cleaned on this thing. Don’t question it. You need a waterproof one.

How often I use it:

Many times every day.

Is it worth the price?

Some are more expensive than others! We went with a mid-price one that we love and matches our nursery but it’s so worth it to get one that will last.

What I Didn’t End Up Using (Because We’re Honest Here)

  • Swaddles - I was gifted a few at my shower but we preferred to use a sleep sack instead.

  • Hands free manual pump/collection cups - although a lot of people recommend these I didn’t have leakage while breastfeeding and never used it. I would recommend waiting to see if that’s an issue before purchasing.

Final Thoughts From a Mom in Her Cool Era

I’m learning that motherhood isn’t about having everything — it’s about having the right things.

These five items have made my days smoother, my nights slightly less chaotic, and my life way more manageable.

If you’re building your registry or in the thick of newborn life, I hope this helps you skip the overwhelm.

And if you have a baby item you swear by? Tell me. I’m always influenced.
